PayFlow Pro: Commonly Returned Errors

Below is a list of common errors experienced between Formstack Forms and the PayFlow Pro integration.  Here you can reference frequently encountered errors and the suggested corrective action.  Some errors are dependent on your form so additional troubleshooting may be necessary.

1. Error processing payment: User authentication failed

  • In Setting > PayFlow Pro, confirm the Account Information matches what is in your PayFlow Pro Account.  To find your PayPal Payflow Pro account information, log in to your PayPal Payflow Pro account and click on Account Administration > Manage Users and then click on the user login link. You should find your Partner, User, and Vendor login info there.

  • PayFlow Pro is set to test mode which only functions on PayPal Developer accounts.  If you are not using a Developer account, you will need to switch the integration to ON and submit the form

2. Error: Failed insufficient permissions to perform a transaction

  • PayFlow Pro is set to test mode which only functions on PayPal Developer accounts.

  • The PayFlow Pro User does not have sufficient rights.  In your PayPal Manager (PayFlow) account, go into Administration > Users and set the user to API Full Access permissions.

3. Transaction not Permitted - Card

  • The transaction is being declined because of an invalid credit card number or suspected fraud.  You will need to reach out to PayPal to confirm the reason why.

  • In Settings > PayFlow Pro, make sure the Credit Card information section is correctly mapped to the specific field within your form.

  • The card might be declining because of a leading zero in the CVC while using the Number field.  To prevent leading zeros from dropping, you will need to switch to a Short Answer field.
