Migrating forms to the newest version? Looking for some support? You’re in the right place. The following is a best practices guide to help you with the transition. If you're just looking for more information on what's new with our new live form version, check out this article.
- Preview what your migrated form will look like.
When you log in to your Forms account, you’ll notice the Migration Tool widget on the homepage. There, you’ll see an option to “Preview latest version” next to the forms on the list.
By selecting that option, a new tab will open with a preview of what your migrated form will look like. .
If anything looks or is not acting right, you can see this by using this feature.
- Identify complex forms by exporting your forms list
On the Migration Tool widget on the homepage, there is an option to “Export forms inventory CSV. A similar option titled “Form Inventory CSV” can also be found on the Forms page. Both buttons perform the same function and will send a report of all the forms on your account to your email address. The CSV will include the following fields:
- Form ID
- Form Name
- Form URL
- Created Date
- Creator Name
- Submission Count
- Last Submission
- Version
- Folder Name
- Theme
- Is Theme Stock?
- Has Custom Header
- Has Embed Code
- Has File Upload Field
By exporting your list of forms, you can identify which forms may require more attention when migrating. Forms using embed codes, custom CSS, or custom headers are more likely to experience formatting errors when migrating.
If “Has Embed Code” is Yes, the indicated form is using an embed code.
If “Has Custom Header is Yes, the indicated form is using a custom header.
If “Is Theme Stock” is No, the form is using a custom theme.
We suggest previewing forms with that fall into these categories before migrating.
- Copy the form and upgrade the copy.
When you copy or duplicate your forms, those forms will remain on the same version of Formstack Forms. If a form doesn’t look right in preview or if you want to fully test a form, you can create a copy of the form and then upgrade just the copy.
You can copy a form by searching for it in the Forms tab and then clicking the checkbox next to the form name > Copy > My Account. Then you can find the copy (it will have the same name as the original with - COPY at the end) and then click the Upgrade button to the right of the form.
